Long Distance Emergency

What were they thinking of when they put up this sign! :)

Sisters who wed together celebrate 140 years of marriage

They married together in a hastily arranged double wedding as their generation faced the terrible uncertainty of war. But sisters Doris and Margaret Wiles were both fortunate to find an enduring romance which has lasted 70 years.

Now aged in their 90s, Doris and Margaret have celebrated their platinum wedding anniversaries with the sweethearts they wed in a joint ceremony in the autumn of 1939.

Strange News! But True...

World's Shortest Flight - Just 96 seconds

Children living on a remote Scottish island are to hitch a lift to school on what is said to be the world's shortest flight. The plane journey from Papa Westray to Westray in the Orkney Islands takes just 96 seconds, covering a distance of little over a mile. Six teenagers are to take the Loganair service to Westray Junior High after the local ferry service was suspended.

Holiday mood delays flight landing

An aeroplane was left circling an airport in the Philippines for several minutes before landing because air traffic controllers were apparently still in a Christmas holiday mood. The Philippine Airlines flight from Manila was unable to land at Zamboanga city's airport on schedule because there were no traffic controllers around to answer their request to approach the runway. The airport's assistant chief air traffic controller, Reynaldo Alforte, said controllers were late and two others did not show up at all.

Shattering blow for lorry driver

A red-faced German lorry driver drove two panes of high-value glass all the way from his homeland - then misjudged the height of a bridge and smashed them.

Whitehouse Road in Swindon, just yards from the intended delivery address, had to be shut while shards from the two 2.3m by 2.6m panes, worth a total of 4,000 euros (£3,174), were swept up.

"The sweepers were shattered - much like the glass - and the German lorry driver was very unhappy," Sergeant Barrie Card, of Wiltshire Police, said.

England fans stranded in one way street

Two English football fans in Cologne lost their car after mistakenly thinking they had parked it on a road called 'One Way Street'. The pair wrote down 'Einbahn Strasse' - which means one-way street in German - so they didn't forget where they'd left the hire car.
But when they came to find it again they found that every second street in the inner city was called 'Einbahn Strasse'. It was only when they found a policeman that they were told the sign was to inform drivers that they were on a one-way street.

They finally managed to find their vehicle hours later with the help of the German police.

My Virtual World

I've been asked a couple of times what prompted me to do a blog, and the truth of the matter is I really can't say for sure, except that I needed some kind of escape from the "real" world.

You see, I'm not coping too well in the real world, I suffer severe bouts of depression, sometimes they only last a few weeks, but for lots of personal reasons that I won't go into here (I wouldn't want to depress my readers) these past few months have been a real struggle and I needed a distraction which is why I started blogging again, otherwise I probably would have done something really stupid, you know what I mean.

Originally I called the blog Fork 'n Knife (which if said with an irish accent, sounds like your swearing) but the name didn't portray anything, it was meaningless, so instead I changed it to Life! Just Enjoy it! because I would really like to enjoy life again I really would!

We're only on this planet for a short time, a blink of an eye really when you consider how old the planet really is, and if your like me and don't believe in a God anymore, its the only life we're going to get, who would want to live it when your contantly depressed, well thats enough about me.

This blogs not about me it's about life and the funny things we see, hear or read every day, it's about getting out there and living life to the full with No regrets, live each day as if it was your last and if you have friends to share it with, so much the better.

This blog is going to be My Virtual World of Contant Happiness, so now you know!

Vista's Secret Administrator Account

I've been using Windows Vista ever since it was released and I've just found out about the secret Administrator account that Microsoft forgot to tell us about! it's different from the normal administrator account you have set up on your PC and for the sake of this report we will call it the Super-Administrator account.

This Administrator account is not part of the Administrator group. It's a kind of super-administrator, and by default it's turned off and hidden. In Vista, the Super-Administrator account is not subject to UAC (User Account Control), but the normal administrator account is. So the Super-Administrator can make any changes to the system and you will see no UAC prompts.

Turning on the Super-Administrator account is straightforward. First, open an elevated command prompt by typing cmd into the Search box on the Start menu, right-clicking the command prompt icon that appears at the top of the Start menu, then selecting Run as administrator.

Then enter this command and press Enter:

Net user administrator /active:yes

From now on, the Super-Administrator account will appear as an option on the Welcome screen, along with any user accounts you may have set up. Use it like any other account. Be aware that it won't have a password yet, so it's a good idea to set a password for it now.

If you want to disable the account and hide it, enter this command at an elevated command prompt and press Enter:

Net user administrator /active:no

You can find this and many more Vista hacks here or you could simply perform a search in google.

A New Guinness World Record

Joel Waul's 27, from Lauderhill, Florida, climbs on top of the colossal rubber band ball he made, he spent six years wrapping, linking and stretching rubber bands of various sizes into the ball shape. And apparently his endeavours have paid off, because the Guinness Book of World Records have declared his masterpiece the world's largest rubber band ball in 2008. This is seriously someone who has far too much time on his hands.

Squatters Rights

In 1987 Harry Hallowes began living among the trees in the gardens of Athlone House, a rambling 19th century palace in north London.
Over the years he has transformed it into a ramshackle collection of tents and other temporary structures and, under the '12-year-rule', last year gained rights to own the land. (Under 'squatters rights', if a property has been lived in for 12 years then it effectively becomes the property of the squatters.)

This came as a shock to the billionaire who had recently bought the property for £16 million and was planning to spend £80 million transforming both the house and its gardens.

You've got to laugh at his luck :)

My blog has had a facelift..

Well after many stressful hours I've managed to change the look of my blog, in the old days is was easy as everything was in straight forward HTML code but now you have to mess around with blogger tags as well.

This is still a work in progress so if anyone has any useful hints on altering the look of the blog I'm willing to listen, I hate those blog templates that are fixed at 750px wide as they look totally ridiculous on a widescreen which is what most people use nowadays, take a look at the two screenshots below and tell me which you prefer.

Please leave me a comment to let me know which you prefer.

Halloween - The Festival of the Dead

Many of us will be out celebrating halloween this weekend and I wonder how many people really know the true meaning of All Hallows' eve?

Halloween has origins in the ancient celtic festival known as Samhain (pronounced sow-in or sau-an). The celebration also has some elements of a festival of the dead. The ancient Celts believed that the border between this world and the next became thin on Samhain, allowing spirits, both good and bad to pass through. The family's ancestors were honoured and invited home whilst harmful spirits were warded off. It was believed that in order to ward off harmful spirits, costumes and masks were worn to confuse the spirits  into believing that they themselves were harmful spirits and thus would avoid harm, bonfires also played a large part in the festivities, all other fires were put out, then every home lit their hearth from the bonfire.

On All Hallows’ eve, many Irish and Scottish people have traditionally placed a candle on their western window sill to honor the departed. Other traditions include carving lanterns from turnips or swedes, sometimes with faces on them, as is done in the modern tradition of carving pumpkins. Welsh, Irish and British myth are full of legends of the Brazen Head, which may be a folk memory of the ancient Celtic practice of headhunting. The heads of enemies may have decorated shrines, and there are tales of the heads of honored warriors continuing to speak their wisdom after death. The name jack-o'-lantern can be traced back to the Irish legend of Stingy Jack, a greedy, gambling, hard-drinking old farmer. He tricked the devil into climbing a tree and trapped him by carving a cross into the tree trunk. In revenge, the devil placed a curse on Jack, condemning him to forever wander the earth at night with the only light he had: a candle inside of a hollowed turnip. The carving of pumpkins is associated with Halloween in North America where pumpkins are both readily available and much larger- making them easier to carve than turnips. Many families that celebrate Halloween carve a pumpkin into a frightening or comical face and place it on their doorstep after dark. The American tradition of carving pumpkins preceded the Great Famine period of Irish immigration and was originally associated with harvest time in general, not becoming specifically associated with Halloween until the mid-to-late 1800s.

So while you are out celebrating on Saturday evening be wary of the walking dead...
Happy Halloween!

Why is it...

Why is it whenever you've got no money everyone invites you out for a drink or to go to a party :(

I hate having no money, living on bread & butter and sometimes  having to go to bed hungry. But I'm not poor, I have a roof over my head (for now...) I'm in reasonable good health and I'm alive!

I know there are a lot more people with far less than me and that I should be happy with what I've got. however a little more money would at least allow me to light a fire when I'm cold or to have  one hot meal a day...

Donations will be very kindly accepted... if not to me then maybe the next time you see a homeless person sleeping rough on the street you'll not think twice about giving them a few pennies.

Stressed...

After many hours of totally messing up my blog I think I've finally got it just the way I want, except I still can't get my logo image to show in internet explorer.
Which goes to show that Microsoft still have a long way to go to get a browser anywhere as good as Firefox, for those of you that don't have Firefox but are willing to try it out you can download it here.

So what did you think of the Elephants As Big As Whales song, I actually love it even though I don't normally go for this kind of music, I much prefer trance, remember to checkout PlayRadioPlay! & if your crazy like me checkout Ryan Cyr's youtube page.

First Snow

Well it started snowing about 3am this morning and I'm kinda hoping that because I'm near the coast it will soon melt. I know, I know I'm a miserable ol' git but the snow just doesn't appeal to me any more... must be the age. Give me a warm sunny beach any day, I hate feeling so damn cold!

Keep smiling ;-)
